About Dr. George Varghese K.

Dr. George Varghese K. is a senior Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon with 41 years of teaching and clinical experience in the field of Dentistry and maxillofacial surgery after acquiring post graduate qualification (MDS) .He completed his B.D.S. degree (with University Gold Medal) in 1979 and M.D.S in 1983 from Govt. Dental College, Trivandrum, India. Later obtained D.S.S. degree in oral and maxillofacial surgery (1992) from the University of Vienna (Austria) under world renowned maxillofacial Surgeon Prof. Dr. Dr.Rolf Evers.

In 1980, he started his professional career as a dental surgeon at Adimali Govt. Hospital, Kerala. Later he took up various teaching positions in Kottayam, Kozhikode, Alappuzha, Govt. Medical / Dental Colleges. During his tenure as the Head of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department at Govt.Medical College Kottayam, he was appointed as the Special Officer for the starting of a new Dental College at Kottayam in 2000. His enthusiasm and commitment was instrumental in bringing that institution to a world class level after surmounting several obstacles. He retired from Govt. service as the Principal of that institution in 2017. His next appointment was as the Principal and Prof. of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery of Pushpagiri Dental College, Thiruvalla in 2017 where he served till 2022. Currently Dr.Varghese is working as the Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon at Pushpagiri Medical College Hospital.

He has authored three books on maxillofacial surgery and has contributed to chapters in two other books in the speciality. Recently a memoir titled ‘മഞ്ഞ ഇലകൾക്കിടയിലെ ചെമ്പനിനീർപൂക്കൾ’ (meaning ‘Roses among yellow leaves’) was released. Dr. Varghese is the author of numerous research papers in dental journals as well as authored several popular articles in dentistry. He is also credited with innumerable presentations at various forums.

  • President of the Central Kerala branch of Indian Dental Association.
  • Former member & Vice President, Kerala Dental Council.
  • Former member, Dental Council of India, New Delhi.
  • Former Chairman, Board of studies in Dentistry-Mahatma Gandhi University.
  • First Dean, Faculty of Dental Sciences- Kerala Health University.
  • Former Senate member - Kerala Health University.
  • Former Chairman, P G Board of studies in Dentistry- Kerala Health University.
  • Former Member, Planning Committee- Kerala Health University.
  • Currently he is a Member of the Ethics Committee- Kerala Health University.
